I passed by this dresser every day. Each time I did, this voice inside me would nag: "Just put them away!" But I kept on walking and did nothing. The pile kept growing. Last Friday, while Robert and Christine were away at the basketball tournament, I decided it was time to deal with it, once and for all.
As I was putting things away, I questioned myself about how the pile got there? I couldn't come up with a good answer except just the plain old laziness in me. You see, somehow every surface in the house always seem to beckon for stuff to be put on it. No matter how tidy I have the house be, if there is an empty flat surface, it is a guarantee that I will see some thing get on it soon.
This time I made up a game. After I cleared off all the stuff on the dresser top, I quietly watched to see WHO was going to put SOMETHING there and how soon. That was the first part of the game. Well, it didn't take long. A few items including a basket with clean laundry in it get landed on the surface! However, the second part of the game was as soon I saw ONE item landed there, I immediately removed it and put it back to its rightful place. I did not tell my family about this little game I had with myself but it has been fun to see WHAT got on there.
Most of the stuff are not junks, they were just not being returned to their places after being used, or materials for a project that I am keeping it there so the little hands wouldn't get to it, etc...
First thing first, the pink box, curling iron and hair cutting tools got put back away...
New underpants in between little one's jammies and sock box...
Germ killer in the bathroom where it should be...
Paper towels next to the cleaning supplies under the bathroom sink...
the grocery plastic bag box next to the diapers where I use them for soiled diapers... I love using empty Kleenex boxes to hold my plastic bags
and the hammer got returned to the tool box,
water bottles got put in the emergency bag,
Tooth box in the misc. basket in the kitchen cabinet,
and last but not least, the fabrics were put next to the project I have going on in the garage.
And...
Voila!!!!
A clean surface with a catch-all basket, except there won't be much to catch now due to my little game!
